Product Upgrades & Recalls

phil&teds takes product safety and safe use seriously.  We take the utmost care in designing products to meet or exceed safety standards all over the world.

We are extremely proud of our safety record, our proactive approach to product management, and our long term relationship with parents, all over the world.  Sometimes, new concerns arise outside the testing and production framework that require immediate attention. We are proud to make positive, pro-active product improvement measures.

Even though we test for toxicity, endurance, hazards, function, labelling and so on, human factors mean we may later learn that our product can be better.  We know that kids are involved, so if we consider it necessary, then we will recall a product.  This is a good thing.  Most recalls are "to repair" and achieved in home and tool.  So most likely if we recall a product, you need simply register online & be sent the new part, for you to fit in your home.  We know that your convenience & continued use of the product is important.

Why we think upgrades & recalls are a good thing

At phil&teds safety comes first that's why we pride ourselves on attaining relevant standards for all our products and keeping up to date with legislation in all our markets and complying. The main worldwide recognised standards are the British/European (BSEN), Australian/New Zealand (AS/NZS) and American (ASTM). It is quite a challenge for us to meet or exceed product safety standards in all 50 countries that we operate in. Also proving our dedication to the cause we think were the first and only juvenile hardware company to achieve full CPSIA compliance with the new CPSIA standard in the US! - Check out our  product compliance listing .

Dash stroller - Hinge & Latch Covers

Consistent with our unwavering commitment to safety, we are making available to all affected consumers a free set of easy-fit hinge & latch covers for our discontinued Dash stroller. This is in response to 2 reports of adult users catching a finger in the main hinge of a dash.

All strollers are designed to fold, and so have moving parts. Whilst the Dash stroller has long since been discontinued, when we can act to rectify an issue, we do.

This does not apply to any of phil&teds' other strollers - these have different hinge mechanisms.

Safety is our first priority and through this voluntary effort we urge consumers to immediately obtain and fit the free kit which may be ordered via the  online order form .

Should you have any queries at all please feel free to  contact  one of our trained customer service representatives.

phil&teds stresses that all users should read and adhere to the instruction manual, which contains valuable safety tips and service recommendations.

Free Frame Swap For Early Model Explorer and Hammerhead Buggies

We’re always seeking ways to improve the function and safety of products through our continuous innovation programme, and when feasible to do so we make those improvements available to owners of older versions of the product.

A recent development through that programme has been an improved mechanism for fitting brakes to our Explorer and Hammerhead buggies. Whilst the previous construction (Series 1) passed all safety certification, testing of the new construction has shown it to be significantly more durable.

We implemented the upgrade in production some months ago, creating ‘Series 2’ Explorer and Hammerhead buggies, and are undertaking an initiative to make the new, improved brake available to owners of Series 1 (pre January 2011) Explorer and Hammerhead buggies identifiable by serial numbers between 0610/0001 and 0111/4788. Each number is generated in date/serial format MMYY/XXXX, for example 0610/0001 = June 2010/0001.

The decision to make the new Series 2 brake available to Series 1 owners is a measure that we think is appropriate after recording higher than normal warranty repair levels to Series 1 Hammerhead and Explorer buggies, and reports of users choosing to continue using damaged product, which of course presents a potential safety risk.

Our solution is a simple frame swap that can be implemented either at home or at a phil&teds base.

We ask that you identify if your buggy is within the serial range above. If it is we advise that you fill out our explorer/hammerhead free frame upgrade form (see below).

Should you have any queries at all please feel free to  contact  one of our trained customer service representatives.

NOTE: this only applies to pre-January-2011 Explorers and Hammerheads; it does not apply to newer Explorers and Hammerheads which already have the Series 2 brake; nor does it apply to any other model of phil&teds buggy.

Free table clamp sheaths for metoo clip-on highchairs

We are making a product part freely available for metoos manufactured before March 2010, consisting of a set of the rubberised table clamp sheaths used in the production of the newer model since March 2010. The kit will be available to all users of older phil&teds metoo chairs currently in market.

We’d like to reiterate that older metoos are safe when used according to the instructions. However we have recently received some reports, from the USA only, of users of older metoos either inadequately clamping metoos to tables, or attaching them to inappropriate tables, and sometimes both. If a chair is insufficiently clamped a metoo could dislodge from a table, and injury could result.

We believe that users may not be adequately tightening the clamps for fear of damaging table surfaces. The rubberised sheaths added to the metoo design in March 2010 were introduced to provide greater protection for table surfaces. We’ve found that they encourage users to feel comfortable about tightening the clamps fully.

Though we can’t police whether users clamp metoos to tables according to the instructions(basically: tightly; with full clamp pressure; and NOT on certain tables) we believe that the addition of this part will make fastening even more effective.

We will send free self-fit kits on request to any metoo owners, and in bulk to our retail partners.

This only applies to metoo chairs manufactured prior to March 2010. These chairs can be distinguished from more recent production by their exposed aluminum clamps. The new model metoos have the rubberized sheaths in place already.

Product affected:                                            Product NOT affected: Note the rubberized

Note the bare aluminum table clamps            clamp grips covering the table top clamps

sport V2 / classic V1 - hinge cover

IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE

Consistent with our unwavering commitment to safety we are providing consumers with notice of a voluntary recall to repair of the now discontinued sport v2 and classic v1 strollers, manufactured between April 2008 and June 2010.

We are making available, free of charge, to all affected consumers a free self-fit hinge cover. This is in response to a number of reported cases in which the frame lock of a sport v2 (which shares a common hinge with the classic v1) was not utilised and an adult user caught a finger in the hinge mechanism, causing injury.

Of the phil&teds stroller range only these two strollers are affected by this recall to repair. All other models have different hinge mechanisms and are unaffected.

Safety is our first priority and through this voluntary effort we urge consumers to immediately obtain and fit the free kit which may be obtained via the  online order form .

Should you have any queries at all please feel free to contact one of our trained customer service representatives.

phil&teds stresses that all users should read and adhere to the instruction manual which contains valuable safety tips and service recommendations.

Buggy identification methods:

  1. The sport v2 and classic v1 were manufactured between March 2008 and May 2010.
  2. Affected serial numbers (located on the inner face of the main hinge, underneath the seat):
    • Sport V2 affected serial numbers - 0308/0001 to 0510/0840
    • Classic V1 affected serial numbers - 0308/0001 to 0510/0906
  3. The strollers have the codes 'SPv2' (sport v2) or 'E3C' (classic v1) printed on the wrist safety strap attached to the stroller handle

Tott Carseat - Belt Lock

SAFETY ADVISORY: IMPORTANT INFORMATION WHEN USING THE SEAT BELT LOCK WITH YOUR TOTT CAR SEAT

When do you use the seat belt lock?

This stage is generally for children 3 – 6 years old and weighing 15 – 25kg. When a child is too large for the Tott harness, they need to use the adult seat belt, over the Tott. It secures children too large for the Tott harness, yet too small for the adult seat belt alone. Once older/heavier, they can use the Tott booster seat alone, with the seat back removed.

What is the seat belt lock?

This part comes with the Tott and is stored inside the cover at the rear of the booster cushion.

Using the seat belt lock:

  1. Feed the seat belt lock through the top harness slot in the Tott seat back (left side when seated on left of car, and right side when seated on right side of car).
  2. Pull the harness adjuster strap (at front of booster seat) to tighten the belt lock strap firmly against seat back. The seat belt lock should sit just above the child's shoulder.
  3. Feed the upper part of the adult seat belt through the seat belt lock and check that seat belt is taut, not slack. Make sure the seat belt is not twisted. Also check that the cover is not impeding the movement or fit of the seat belt webbing in any way.

Checking the seat belt lock: Always check that the seat belt lock is functioning properly - pull the adult seat belt through the lock, and ensure that the belt retracts, by itself. This is best tested when a child is secured in the seat.

If the adult belt is not retracting through the seat belt lock unassisted, please email phil&teds by clicking on the following link:  tott car seat email

Dash Inline Buggy - Handle Mechanism

Frame replacement - due to a small number of reports (one report too many!) of the apparent failure of the trigger actuated hinge lock mechanism to engage on one side, phil&teds have recalled all affected dash stock and replaced their frames. In the final step of this recall phil&teds are asking all dash buggy owners, for their own piece of mind, to make a final check of their frame. A buggy with a frame serial number CD0108/XXXX/XXXXX through to CD0808/XXXX/XXXXX will need a replacement frame - if you have one of these serial numbers

Free Hinge Cover for e3, sport v1 and twin Buggies

As part of our continuous innovation program and our unwavering commitment to safety we are
making available, free of charge, to users of the now discontinued e3, sport v1 and twin buggies, a
product improvement, consisting of a set of self-fit hinge covers.

It is clear that some e3/sportv1 inline® buggy users are not using the existing frame-lock straps.
In such cases, the buggy may unexpectedly unfold, causing the front part to flip forward. If this
happens and the user also has their hand in the folding mechanism, (in spite of the sticker on the
frame warning against this), a potential injury hazard exists.

Safety is our first priority and through this voluntary effort we encourage consumers to obtain and
fit the free kit which may be obtained via the  online order form.

Should you have any queries at all please feel free to contact one of our customer care
representative’s here .

phil&teds stresses that all users should read and adhere to the instruction manual which contains
valuable safety tips and service recommendations.
