Nuts and Bolts Postnatal Fitness Continues….

Thursday, 17 May 2012

Wow the weeks are just whizzing by!  Maybe I’m noticing it more because my husband is a teacher, and my eldest is now at school, so I know how many weeks are left before the end of the school term, and my next family holiday!  Ooh I can’t wait, we are managing to escape the winter for a couple of weeks overseas!  The kids first trip out of NZ so my 5 year old is super excited!  I’m not sure how many of you out there in parent-land have had to go through this process yet, but even attempting to try and get a 2 and a a half year old to 1.  stand in one place.  2.  not to smile/suck their thumb or do anything else with their hands/ and or feet  3.   look straight ahead at a camera long enough for a stranger to get a half decent, non blurred photo is…… MISSION IMPOSSIBLE! After talking, pleading, bribing, and holding him on the spot for as long as possible and then trying to duck out of the shot – we got a half passable photo!  Fingers crossed it makes the cut at the passport office!

We’ve had a great week at Wheelie Fit Mums.  One of our members, Sarah, got married in the last couple of weeks, so getting to see the sneak peek of some of her photos was really cool.  I loved every minute of planning my wedding, and LOVE checking out wedding photos when I get a chance!  We gave away a 10 session Wheelie Fit pass for a very deserving mum for Mothers Day, who was nominated by one of our current mums.  Having been stuck in the PGC building in the Earthquake, married 4 days later, home red zoned, living with her in-laws, and a premature baby I thought she was a very deserving winner.  I hope you all enjoyed a great day with your child/children.  I spent the day at the Tiddlers Multisport event, where my daughter raced.  She did a run, bike ride, run to a bouncy castle and goop slide – what a fantastic way to introduce your children into a lifelong love of physical activity!

A Dads Point of View.

Friday, 4 May 2012

phil&teds is for parents. Mums, and Dads.  I’d like to introduce you to our newest Dad blogger: Ben.

It had to happen sooner or later.

Alright, it was only a day. Well half a day actually but who’s counting, the point is, I was suddenly alone. Alone and scared.

It might help if I give you a quick whistle stop tour of the last six years to bring you up to speed. My name is Ben Hull. I’m an Actor and Presenter, who spent their twenties in a U.K Soap Opera called ‘Hollyoaks’.

I met my wife, Anna, in a different Soap Opera (old habits etc.) called ‘Family Affairs’ and after no little wooing and greasing of palms, she finally agreed to marry me. Two years later we had our first daughter, Grace and two years after that, we had our second, Lana.

At time of writing, Lana is twelve weeks old and exclusively breast-fed. Grace is two and a bit and I was feeling every second of my thirty-nine years on the planet as I was literally pushed, clutching both girls, a list of instructions, and about six gallons of frozen breast milk out into the early morning sunlight.

phil&teds celebrate Wellington Phoenix Football Team’s Success!

Friday, 27 April 2012

A group of phil&teds heads were lucky enough to attend the Wellington Phoenix Football Team Award Gala on Tuesday this week!

Glad rags at the ready, and celebrations in order!  At the beginning of the season, the Wellington Phoenix had been written off by some critics, but that didn’t stop them coming 4th in the A-League.  The critics would have been shocked at the team work, determination and spirit of all of the players and staff – we can all learn a lot from them.  I was lucky enough to witness the end of season award ceremony, plus tributes to some of the teams centurions and retirements.

phil&teds heads glammed up!

There was such an amazing sense of achievement, passion and loyalty!  The Welnix owners all seemed very proud to have joined the Phoenix train a year ago, and had nothing but praise to say about the team on the field and off the field….

Above: some of the owners with their signed shirts presented on the night, the trophies and the centurions club!

The dilemma of choosing a stroller that is right for you, and your family.

Tuesday, 24 April 2012

Choosing which buggy/stroller/pram/pushchair suits you, and your family is hard.  There’s a whole heap of all singing and dancing wheeled machines out there – 3 wheels, 4 wheels, doubles, singles, all terrain, uptown inlines – need I say more?  We spotted Tina’s dilemma via Twitter.  She was torn between the minefield of stroller choices, an array of options, and the one mission: to narrow down what stroller would suit her’s, and he family’s lifestyle.

Appeasing the Tiny Traveller – part one

Tuesday, 17 April 2012

International travel with small children immediately conjures up visions of despair for anyone with or without children until you actually do it and realise it’s just not that big a deal. As an expat, I started planning my daughter’s first trip home almost immediately with research and booking months before we left last November. After that trip we refined our lists and “must haves” with experience and her ever changing needs to make the subsequent several international trips a breeze.

The important thing to remember is that with the exception of new things to look at, it’s just another day in your child’s life, no more different to her than any new location, restaurant, etc. You are her favourite person and are alongside her for that entire flight instead of being away at work or wherever, so no matter what she will be thankful. read more …

Parents are still people. Keep on truckin’ to retain a sense of self.

Monday, 9 April 2012

Parenting is more challenging than you think – we hear it all the time, in the office, from our consumers.  And  Dad Jermey (the packhorse Dad!) can vouch for that.  He and his wife have some tips, and advice about how to retain a sense of self – they refuse to become a prisoner of the nursery!

G’day,

We have managed to put the bags out in the spelling paddock for a few months and to be honest it has been great! The last flight we did ended up in an unsavoury war of words with a fellow passenger after he suggested we get off the plane due to our youngest cracking after being on the tarmac for an hour!! read more …
