We want to hear your comments! phil&teds’ Rich (in house winner of the
procreation challenge a wee while back!) has just shot off to the Gold Coast with the kids…and a 23kg baggage limit. Ouch! How did he get around it? We’ll tell you when he gets back…
For now – we want to hear how you handle it! Post your comments below (on this post) – share some sites that help you too! We love learning what you’re learning too – and parents love to hear how others do it
Thanks Nics

Bags with wheels and not too many pieces along with a front pack for littlies essential. We travelled round europe with 2 kids and this was key. We also came across the following to help reduce your baggage weight – BubbleBum booster seat – we travelled through europe, Asia and Nz with this and it is so easy and convenient – not to mention easy on the back and arms!! Check out http://www.bubblebum.co.Nz hope this helps!! Mum of two boys 18months and 4
The Ergo carrier–GOLD while sitting through airport lines (customs, immigration, security, etc.).
Also, not sure how to safely recreate this one… but we almost missed our AirNZ flight from LA to Auckland once, and the amazing AirNZ ground crew helped us “shuffle” our bags to get them on the plane just in time…
Unfortunately they ended up on a later flight than we did anyway, and since we were transferring on to Wellington directly, didn’t catch up with us in time. The upside? They came to our front door via courier at AirNZ’s expense without a single extra baggage charge–despite the fact that they all were now carrying little orange tags proclaiming “overweight”!! Oops.
So yeah–AirNZ rocks, but possibly couldn’t exactly take this as “advice” lol…
Oh my, if only I could count how many times we have been at the airport counter and been within a pound (or kilo) of the weight limit! We are lucky because we usually try and fly the airlines that corresponds to our hub (Delta). Although we do not love everything about them, since we fly so much we get extra bags for free. I try and bring an extra bag (usually collasped inside another bag) for just in case we are over weight and I want to do some quick re-packing at the airport to avoid heavy baggage fees. Slightly off-topic, but we hate it when different countries have different policies on what you can carry on a flight. We recently traveled to Europe and in the USA the allowance for carry-ons is 2 items, while our connecting airports in Europe only allow one. Such fun!
One of the best things I ever did was buy a travel bag for my Mountain Buggy- airlines carry baby kit for free and it’s amazing how much extra you can stuff into one of those puppies!! hahhahaha!!
