Donate your stroller, inspire others

phil&teds “Buggies for Good” initiative has inspired one of our favourite bloggers to give back too!

This is the letter we received from Nation of Moms:

“I just wanted to give you a quick note to let you know that phil&teds has inspired me to give back.

Since we do review quite a few strollers, ANOM has started a program where we anonymously donate strollers after we review them to local needy families that I hear via our local church.  We just started it this month with a young family of one 3 year old special needs child and twins on the way (due next month), and are very excited about this new venture, though it hasn’t yet been formally announced on the blog-azine.

It’s a good feeling to give to a hardworking family who is truly in need, and a great way to de-clutter and recycle all the wonderful strollers we have been so fortunate to receive.  Thank you for the great idea!!

A HUGE thank you!

A Nation of Moms
It’s truly heart-warming when we hear our initiatives are inspiring others to give back to their communities.  You can too:

phil&teds stroller saves family after Japanese earthquake

Tuesday, 25 October 2011

You guys will probably remember way back in March when we heard from Michael, a very generous phil&teds head?

Michael and his family gave their phil&teds stroller to a family who lost everything in the earthquake!  He wanted to share with us, and you a picture of the family who now own Michael’s sport!

” I finally got a picture of the family we gave our buggy to.   From what I hear from them things are starting to get back to normal now in the city area, but in the outer areas there is still a lot of work to be done.    They are in love with the buggy!  They said as there is still so much dried mud and rubbish around a normal pram wouldn’t cut it! The weather is really nice there at the moment so they usually go for walks everyday.   I’m sure it has brought them some happiness, and being able to enjoy the simple things like just going for a stroll again would be a big thing :)

Thanks again phil&teds”

an aussie generous gem!

Thursday, 16 September 2010

“When a generous gem donates their pre-loved buggy where does it go? What happens to it? And why do they choose to do so?” I hear you say!

Meet Cherie.  Cherie and Earl celebrated their 15th Wedding Anniversary last week, she’s a mum to four boys and lives in Aussie!

“We have four boys: Josh 10, Thomas 8, Luke just turned 3 and Ben is 18 months.  I am passionate about prams and child restraints; and photography as a hobby.  As you can imagine life is pretty busy with after school activities and playgroup etc.  We enjoy fishing, picnics and walking around our suburb as well as short holidays in caravan parks.

Earl is a self employed Air-conditioning/refrigeration mechanic and I run his business from home.  I love buggies and have owned 28 in total, Earl was pretty happy when I donated one back to phil&teds to the Buggies for Good programme!” Says Cherie, mum of four boys!

The men in Cherie’s life!

So what made Cherie want to donate?

“The orange sport was one that I ‘rescued’ from e-bay.  It had clearly been miss treated by its owner and needed some TLC.  I decided it would be a project for me and that I would renovate it and try and re-sell for a profit.  12 months later it was still sitting in our garage, I saw the buggies for good programme and decided that was an excellent idea since I didn’t have the time or motivation to renovate it myself.”

Cherie has collected A LOT of buggies she told us “ I am one of those crazy women who have owned over 28 prams (no more than 6 at a time) and the Sport is at the top of my list.”  We want to thank our generous phil&teds head Cherie, without these donations this awesome programme wouldn’t be possible.

Giving a little means a lot!

Thursday, 26 August 2010

It’s not rare that one dedicates a day to having a clear out, letting go of that dress you last wore when you were eighteen, that you swore one day you would fit back into.

Well life here at phil&teds can be a bit like that!  Sales Manager Alicia, star of previous blog is not back on the road, but she did roll up her sleeves to dig out product that we can donate back to the community under our phil&thropic programme Buggies for Good!

We believe in giving back, that’s why we’re re-developing our phil&thropic campaign!  We’ve been appealing for buggy donations from phil&teds and Mountain Buggy owners via our Facebook page; and we’ve had a GREAT response… you’ll be able to see the stories of our generous gems on our website real soon!

Last week, thanks to Alicia’s grafting, we were able to donate two Bam! prams to our friends at Wellington Hospitals and Health Foundation. We’ve had a relationship with this lovely lot for a few years now and continue to share the love.

Just this week, we read the amazing story of ‘House of Grace’ in the Wellington Dominion Post and we were itching to help out! It’s a home for pregnant teens, providing support and education up to and after the birth of their baby.  We took bits & bobs from a number of injured buggies to recreate three Mountain Buggies and two phil&teds travellers in wich we donated to ‘House of Grace’… They do GREAT work and are currently raising funds for a new mini bus. They are also running for Kiwi Battler (you can vote for them online!). Check it out here.

Wowsa!  That’s a whole lotta giving, and we LOVE it!  If you want to find out more about our phil&thropic programme please contact buggiesforgood@philandteds.com

Phoenix Centre for the Youth & buggies for good join hands!

Monday, 9 August 2010

When the wonderful people of Phoenix Centre for the Youth, non for profit organisation in Halifax, Nova Scotia, CANADA got in touch our hearts here melted.  What a humble and amazing job they do!!

They work to break the cycle of poverty and homeless and believe that parenting is the most important job someone can have. Phoenix understands that parenting can be daunting for young adults, especially as many of their young parents have not had strong role models from whom to model their own parenting behaviours

They work to support parents and children in the community by ensuring that young people have every opportunity to achieve success and happiness in their lives.  An extraordinary situation has presented an opportunity to help a mother and her 2 young children. Hailey is a single mother who attends the Phoenix Parent Support Program. She is mother to a young daughter with a genetic disorder that has left her with developmental delay and the inability to walk, and a 7 month old infant. She is challenged each and every day with hauling a very large and cumbersome stroller on and off the bus. This severely limits her quality of life and ability to access support services.  So when Valerie got in touch with phil&teds we wanted to help!

The Phoenix staff and youth begun working on raising funds to purchase a phil&teds, but with Buggies for Good we wanted to donate one to Hailey and her little treasures.  Hailey is now the proud owner of the Sport and is super pleased with it.  This sure is a story that makes all of us at phil&teds HQ go all warm&fuzzy!

Hailey and her bubba's

I must commend the work that Valerie, Elizabeth, and all the staff at Phoenix do!!  Keep doing what you do and let us know how we can help!  If you are interested in helping out; check out their site!
