phil&teds in Wellington, NZ was the place to be last Friday night as we extended our warm hospitality and welcomed the hosts and friends of the Newtown Festival Programme launch! phil&teds was the perfect backdrop and venue to house the event as it’s choc full of all the quirk, character & charm Newtown is famous for. The Newtown Festival is a celebration of the diverse and unique culture that makes up the Newtown community, one that we are proud to be a part of. It’s organized by the local Newtown Residents Association who dedicate their time and resources to ensure it’s success. It’s bigger and better than ever and is now in it’s 18th year running!
The festival is happening from the 17th of Feb – 17th March 2014. It’s an extravaganza of wonderful entertainment and events spanning over the month. The hi-light of the festival is “Fair Day” on the 2nd March. It’s a showcase of the finest Newtown Arts, Crafts, Markets & Food stalls as well as twelve stages of music! The artist lineup is pretty impressive, providing something for everyone, no matter your musical tastes. As the area will be closed to traffic, people and families are encouraged to stroll around and really enjoy and participate in the street party atmosphere.
Launch night included guests being greeted with delicious morsels to snack on, including platters of cheese, crackers, fruit & classic NZ kiwi onion dip (a personal fav!). To quench the thirst in the room, guests were offered juice, wine and mastercraft beer all prepared and put together with panache by our resident host with the most, our superhero Kane. Guests were also entertained with a poetic performance by the festival organizers and soothed with the smooth soulful stylings of Mara TK. The event was a huge success. You know you have nailed it & created a buzz, when you’re waiting outside and you hear three random passers by proclaim “this has to be THE BEST place to work I reckon”…I think they may be right!
If the programme launch is any indication of what can be expected during the course of the festival, it will be lively, vibrant, colourful & exciting plus so much more. It will provide the opportunity for the community to come together and showcase what makes Newtown so awesome. It is all about “thinking globally and acting locally” which is exactly how phil&teds thinks and operates!
Make sure you check out the Newtown Festival Website for further info including full details on all the performers appearing at the Fair Day celebration. You can even find the event on Facebook and check out the promo vids on YouTube, it’s exciting stuff! We hope to see you all there, joining in the fun & supporting the Newtown community!
